Elks Golf for Nurses

Friday, August 25th proved to be a beautiful day for Golfing. Bridgeport Elks Lodge held its 24th Annual Golf Outing which is this lodge’s biggest fundraiser for the year.  60+ Elks Members and friends set out on a sunny Friday at Westover Golf Course to raise money for the Pennsylvania Elks -State Major Project.  After 18 holes of scramble golf, the fundraisers headed back to the Bridgeport  Elks Lodge for dinner and to win door and raffle prizes, which raised even more money for the Nurses.

All lodges in all 50 states raise money for their states Elks State Association for their Major Project.  Each State association has their specific Major Project such as kids summer camps, Rehabilitation Hospitals, Cancer Research, Scholarship Funds, and much more.  Pennsylvania Elks Major Project is the Home Service Program, sometimes referred to as the “Home Nurse Program.”  The program funds 22 Nurses across the state of Pennsylvania providing support and advocacy services to individuals of any age who have a developmental disability.  Last years the Nurses racked up 332,000 miles and made 14,513 visits helping families in every county of Pennsylvania.

The Bridgeport Elks Lodge raises money every year for not only their State Major Project but also their National Foundation, Scholarship programs, and youth activities.  Money raised and given to the Elks National Foundation allows the Bridgeport Elks to tap into the grants provided by the National Foundation which allows the Elks to conduct their annual Fishing Derby, Bike Safety Program, Veterans Activities and much more.  These funds are pumped back into the community every year to the tune of $30,000.  The Bridgeport Elks have been around since 1901 serving the community and show no signs of slowing down.
